Chennai: Intelligence agencies have reportedly warned that around 300 trained terrorists are waiting across the LoC to enter India ahead of Independence Day and festivals like ‘Eid’, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Vinayaka Chathurthi’.
According to a report in The Week, the ultras are waiting across the LoC along Uri, Kupwara (Keran, Machal, Tangdhar), Bandipora and Gurez in the North Pir Panjal in Kashmir valley and Samba and Rajouri-Poonch in Jammu.
It said there are specific inputs to suggest that Rajouri and Poonch areas are witnessing increasing attempts by ISI-supported terror groups and the infiltration routes falling in these areas are being explored for infiltration of the cadres into Jammu and Kashmir.
This has come at a time when a report by the United Nations on terrorism has warned that there are significant numbers of Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Kerala and Karnataka.
It also claimed that the al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent terror group, which reportedly has between 150 and 200 militants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, is planning attacks in the region.
“The group reportedly has between 150 and 200 members from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan. The current leader of AQIS is Osama Mahmood, who succeeded the late Asim Umar AQIS is reportedly planning retaliation operations in the region to avenge the death of its former leader,” said the report.
