Chennai: After a meeting with District Collectors today, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will take a decision on whether to extend the ongoing lockdown or not. He will also consult with Ministers, top officials and medical experts, sources say.
The lockdown 6.0 from 1 July, including total and complete lockdown on Sundays, would end on 31 July and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would take a call on whether to extend it or not after a meeting with all the District Collectors and with the expert medical team on Thursday.
Sources said considering the steep hike in Covid-19 cases, the single day count of which touched close to 7,000 for the last three days, there were possibilities of lockdown being extended for one more month, with more relaxations in curbs.
The total lockdown on Sundays is also likely to continue. The curbs on public and private transport services, operation of trains, including EMU and Chennai Metro services, regular international flight services, theatres and shopping malls would continue.
The ban on opening of temples, mosques, churches and other places of worship for public is also likely to continue. There are chances of restoration of public transport services within the districts, where the cases are relatively low.
The intra-district bus services were allowed briefly, but was stopped after the corona count started swelling.
