Chennai: Bakrid was celebrated by Muslims across Tamilnadu with religious fervour today.
But it was a low key celebration in view of the lockdown guidelines put in place to prevent spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the State.
As all the mosques and darghas were closed in view of the lockdown, Muslims, attired in new clothes, offered prayers from their homes and exchanged pleasantries with near and dear.
Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, and leaders of various political parties today extended their Bakrid greetings to the Muslims in the State.
In his greetings, Purohit said, “on the occasion of Festival of Sacrifice–‘Eid-ul-Adha’–I extend my best wishes and heartiest greetings to all our Muslim brothers and sisters.”
Palaniswami said the festival symbolises that those having faith in God would not hesitate for any sacrifice. He said on this auspicious occasion, Muslims should keep in mind the principles of Quran, foster love, peace and humanity and live in unity with a sense of brotherhood and love.
