Chennai: On a positive note, the recovery rate of Covid-19 in the city is 85 per cent, that is, 84,916 persons have over come the viral infection so far.
However, 2,765 persons- nearly 13 per cent- are undergoing treatment for coronavirus. The death rate is 2.12 per cent at 2,113.
As part of rapid testing, on 31 July as many as 11,376 persons were tested for Covid-19. A total of 99,794 Covid-19 cases have been recorded by the Greater Chennai Corporation since March.
Royapuram which was one of the most dangerous areas for the viral infection is now showing high recovery with 10,167. This is followed by Anna Nagar where 9,831 persons have overcome the disease.
The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 59.21 per cent of the patients have been males and 40.79 per cent are females. The viral infection has contracted mostly persons in the age group of 20-29 by 18.01 per cent.
The Chennai Corporation today gave an area-wise break up of the places which have Covid-19. A hot spot, Kodambakkam has 1,606 active cases and Anna Nagar, another containment zone, has 1,385 patients testing positive. Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar has 1,050 cases of Covid-19, Adyar has 1,149 active cases and the neighbourhood of Ambattur has 1,307 patients hospitalised.
The neighbourhood of Manali has the least number of infected patients, that is 117 cases. It may be noted that Teynampet has the highest death toll in the city with 321, followed by Royapuram with 258 deaths.
