86 % recovery, 12 % active Coronavirus cases in Chennai

Chennai: Even though Kodambakkam, Anna Nagar and Teynampet had emerged as dangerous spots where Covid-19 was ravaging, the recovery rate in these areas are high.

The recovery rate of Covid-19 in Chennai is 86 per cent and the active cases is 12 per cent. This morning, it is reported that there are no neighbourhoods with more than 2,000 cases, not even 1,500 cases. The death rate is 2.12 per cent- 2,157.

As part of rapid testing, on 31 July as many as 12,426 persons were tested for Covid-19. A total of 10,1951 Covid-19 cases have been recorded by the Greater Chennai Corporation since March.

Out of which 87,604 have recovered from the viral infection and 12,190 are under treatment. The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 59.37 per ent of the patients have been male and 40.63 per cent are female. The viral infection has contracted mostly persons in the age group of 30-39 by 18.56 per cent.

The civic body gave an area-wise break up of the places which have Covid-19. A hot spot, Kodambakkam has 1,394 active cases and Anna Nagar, another containment zone has 1,288 patients testing positive. Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar has 944 cases of Covid-19, Adyar has 1,011 active cases and the neighbourhood of Ambattur has 1,338 patients hospitalised.

The neighbourhood of Manali has the least number of infected patients- 113. It may be noted that Teynampet has the highest death toll in the city with 328, followed by Royapuram with 261 deaths.

Royapuram which was one of the most dangerous areas for the viral infection is now showing high recovery with 10,278 patients testing negative and Anna Nagar, the current highest hot spot, had 10,133 persons recovering and Kodambakkam had 10,220 persons overcoming the viral infection.
