Only 3 areas in Chennai have 1000 plus coronavirus cases

Chennai: It can be said that rapid testing of people for coronavirus has paid off. Finding out those infected and isolating them have curbed the spread of the infection.

As per data from the Chennai Corporation, only three areas in the city now have 1,000 plus Covid-19 cases. The active cases have dropped substantially. The numbers are depleting fast with Manali having just 77 cases.

A total of 1,06,096 cases of Covid-19 has been recorded by the health department since March, out of which 92,128 have recovered. The recovery rate is at a staggering 87 per cent.

Currently, the active cases stand at 11,720 which is nearly 11 per cent. The death rate is 2.12 per cent with 2,248 persons succumbing to the infection.

As part of rapid testing, as on 7 August, as many as 11,595 persons were tested for Coronavirus. The pandemic has affected more men than women, as per data, 58.82 per cent of the patients have been male and 41.18 per cent are female.

The viral infection has contracted mostly persons in the age group of 30-39 by 18.58 per cent. The Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break up of the places which have Covid-19,

According to the data, Ambattur has the highest number of active case, that is, 1,496 persons here have tested positive. Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,260 persons contracting the virus. Kodambakkam, which at one point of the lockdown was highly dangerous has brought the spread under control. Now the active cases stand at 1,326. At least, 917 persons in Adyar and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar are currently hospitalised after testing positive.

Royapuram, where the virus was rapidly spreading, has an impressive recovery rate. As per data, 10,598 persons have overcome the viral infection, followed by Anna Nagar where 10,605 have tested negative. And, in Kodambakkam, as many as 10,702 persons have recovered.

Teynampet has the highest number of deaths related to Covid-19. 340 persons died during the pandemic and 262 casualties have taken place in Royapuram.
