Chennai: Weekend trip by 10 students to river Volga in Russia has turned fatal, with four medical students from Tamilnadu getting drowned.
The deceased were identified as Mohamed Ashiq, Manoj Anand, R Vignesh and Stephen. All of them were final-year students at Volgagrad State Medical University.
While Ashiq was from Dharapuram, Vignesh was from Thittakudi in Cuddalore district, Manoj was from Thalaivasal in Salem and Stephen was from Chennai. According to reports, there was a sudden flooding and they were washed away. While six managed to escape, four of them drowned.
Manoj’s parents met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at his residence on Sunday and sought help to bring his body to the district. Palaniswami has assured to do the needful.
“Since the CM was in Salem, the parents met him and sought his help. He has assured them of all necessary support through the Centre to bring the bodies,” sources said.
