Chennai: As Tamilnadu touched the three lakh mark in Covid-19 cases Monday evening, it has emerged that the state took just 16 days to reach the three lakh mark compared to the 22 days it had taken for the two lakh milestone on 25 July.
It is to be noted that the one lakh tally was recorded on 3 July. Also, Tamilnadu crossed more milestones on Monday, by reporting 114 deaths and the cumulative death toll crossing the 5,000-mark to reach 5,041.
The southern region reported 43 deaths and 1,511 fresh cases, while districts in the north reported fresh cases in three digits– Cuddalore (287), Vellore (189), Ranipet (184), Tiruvannamalai (154).
In the same region, the three districts that are just a stone’s throw away from the capital city of Chennai — Chengalpet (483), Tiruvallur (399), Kancheepuram (310) — together clocked 1,192 cases and 12 deaths.
On the other hand, the 6,037 recoveries on Monday eclipsed the fresh infections and cumulatively 2,44,675 people have got cured so far and only 53,099 were the active cases.
