Chennai: Kamal Haasan is a legend in Indian cinema and there is no denying that. This year, he has completed 61 years in films. From ‘Kalathoor Kannama ’till ‘Indian 2’, it has been a phenomenal journey for him.
Versatile roles, numerous awards, blockbusters, critical acclaims and he has seen it all. With a nose for new technology, it is no doubt that Kamal Haasan hss revolutionised the film industry.
Though he has floated his own political party, still his passion for big screen is alive and kicking. He has Indian 2 on the floors and his pet project Thalaivan Irukinran is slated to begin next year.
Speaking to News Today, filmmaker and senior leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam, Murali Appas, says, “He is an exceptional talent. At six years, he played a dual role in Paarthal Pasi Theerum and showed enough variations. He grew up in the midst of legends then observing all closely. Even during his adolescence, he was in the cinema as dance choreographer, assistant director et al . He created his own opportunities”.
“Even when he emerged a successful actor, he always tried to experiment and never wanted him to rest on his comfort zones. At a very young age, he turned producer with Raja Paarvai“, says Murali Appas.
He may have completed 61 years in cinema but the sparkle in his eyes to excel and strive for perfection is the same we all saw in Kalathoor Kanamma. To be in the industry for over decades and to remain on top is an exceptional feat.
The likes of Balachander, Bharathiraja, Balu Mahendra, K Vishwanath writing such great roles for him speaks of his calibre to execute his director’s vision, says Murali Appas.
No doubt he would continue his successful journey from films to politics for he always aspires perfection, he sums up.
Says prof VKJ, a connoisseur of yesteryear films, “Versatility is the key to his success. He always aspires to try his hands at varied roles. Eagerness to learn new things and an update on technological aspects sets him apart from others’.
‘He learns and unlearns very quickly. Though Mrs Doubt Fire inspired Avvai Shanmugi, the latter was miles ahead in terms of entertaining masses. His involvement is the major reason”.
Be it Velu Naicker in Nayagan, a negative role in Indian Chandran, playing a dwarf in Aboorva Sagodharargal, a love-lost Bharathanatyam dancer in Salangai Oli or ten different roles in Dasavatharam, he ensured that he gives his fullest to the task, adds VKJ.
