Chennai: With less than a year for the Assembly polls in the State, political parties have already started to test the waters even amid the pandemic. Ministers Rajenthra Bhalaji and Sellur Raju said recently that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will be the Chief Minister candidate in the upcoming election.

Following this, Minister R B Udhayakumar today said that the AIADMK led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who are also the joint coordinator and coordinator of the party, respectively, emerged victorious in the local body elections.

‘AIADMK will continue to work under the leadership of Palaniswami with the guidance of Panneerselvam. People are liking the leadership of Palaniswami. It is not necessary to talk about it now as it may lead to confusion,’ he said.

Rajenthra Bhalaji’s tweet triggered a debate in Tamilnadu political circles. In a tweet, Rajenthra Bhalaji said the party will face the elections under the leadership of Palaniswami. Bhalaji was recently appointed as in-charge of party affairs in
Virudhunagar district until a new secretary is appointed.

Sellur Raju had said AIADMK was being led by both Palaniswami and Panneerselvam. ‘Both are our leaders and they are leading the party. As regards our policy, only the person chosen by the party MLAs can be the Chief Minister,’ he said.
He further said no confusion can be created in AIADMK on any such matter. ‘The party continues to be very robust and the achievements of the government has been reaching the people,’ he said.
