Chennai: With the water level in Mettur dam nearing 100 feet due to release of water from Karnataka, Public Works Department (PWD) officials have increased the discharge of water from 1,000 cusecs to 10,000 cusecs.
According to officials, water level in the dam has increased nearly 30 feet in the last six days.Ā Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami released water on 12 June for irrigation in delta districts.
Amidst gloomy economic scenario there is cheerful news coming from rural Tamilnadu as the State is likely to witness a higher agriculture production this crop year (July 2020 to June 2021) due to the timely opening of the Mettur dam on 12 June, coupled with good seasonal rain in catchment areas.
Palaniswami today ordered release of water from Bhavanisagar dam in Erode district.Ā In a statement here, he said based on requests from farmers, he has directed to release water for 120 days from 14 August.
He expressed confidence the move will benefit 1,03,500 acre farm lands in Erode, Tirupur and Karur districts. He also requested farmers to use water judiciously and take steps for good harvest.
