Chennai: The Tamilnadu police arrested as many as 9,64,256 persons for defying the lockdown.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.
Nearly 8,73,075 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGPâs office said. As many as 6,79,571 vehicles were seized from these persons.
However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 20,43,67,578 has been collected from violators as fine.
