Chennai: The condition of legendary playback singer S P Balasubramaniam, popularly called as ‘SPB, who had tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to a private hospital, continues to be critical.
This has made film personalities, friends and fans across the world to pray for his speedy recovery. Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said he had spoken to the hospital’s managing director and assured all support from the government.
“He is currently under observation by the team of experts from critical care and his haemodynamic and clinical parameters are being closely monitored”, sources said.
Soon after he had tested positive, SPB, in a video released in social media from the hospital, said he had mild symptoms of fever and his swab samples sent for laboratory tests, returned positive.
The 74-year-old singer, who had sung close to 50,00 songs in all south indian languages and also in bollywood, said though the doctors advised him to be under home quarantine, he chose to get admitted in a private hospital as he was concerned about his family members.
He said he had chest congestion for a few days, along with cold and fever, that led him to get tested for the novel coronavirus.
He said he could have stayed home in self-quarantine, but he didnāt want to put his family in danger, so he got admitted in order to recover quickly.
“Iām perfectly alright now, apart from a cold and slight fever. I will be discharged in two days; Iāve just come to the hospital to take rest and have my medication properly”, he added.
“Lots of people have been calling me to enquire, but I just want to state that Iām fine now. Thank you all so much for your concern,” the singer said.
He said he was releasing this video to tell his friends that he was in good health and that there was no cause of any concern.
