Chennai: SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRM MCHRC) and Aravind Eye Hospital have signed a memorandum of understanding by which the former will be able to provide regular Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening of high-risk babies at its premises in Kattankulathur.
This is done as part of the commitment to the National Program for Prevention and Control of Blindness (NPCB), to prevent childhood blindness due to ROP.
Aravind Eye Hospital will provide a team of experts and expertise to do the screening at SRM Medical College and Hospital and Research Centre (screening include Tele ROP), said a press note.
Apart from screening, experts from Aravind Eye Hospital will provide treatment advice, perform interventions in the form of laser or intravitreal injection orsurgery free of cost.
Speaking at the MoU signing, dean of SRM MCH Dr A Sundaram said, “ROP is the important cause of childhood blindness. This can be addressed if diagnosed early.”
