Spike in Covid-19 cases continue in Chennai

Chennai: There was a surge in Covid-19 cases across a few districts in Tamilnadu yesterday with 1,185 cases from Chennai. The spike in positive cases continues today as well, say sources.

A total of 1,17,839 cases of coronavirus have been recorded by the Health department since March, out of which 1,03,358 have recovered.

The recovery rate is at 88 per cent. Currently, the active cases stand at 12,003 and is at 10 per cent. The death rate is 2.10 per cent with 2,478 persons succumbing to the viral infection.

As part of rapid testing, on 17 August, as many as 11,796 persons were tested for Coronavirus. The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 60.21 per cent of the patients are male and 39.79 per cent are female.

Around 19.37 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 30-39 years of age. The Greater Chennai Corporation today gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have Covid-19,

According to the data, Ambattur has the highest number of active cases, that is, 1,529 persons have tested positive. Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,305 persons contracting the virus, Kodambakkam, which at one point of the lockdown was highly dangerous has brought the spread under control. Now the active cases stand at 1,330, and at least, 1,157 persons in Adyar have the virus and 1,048 persons in Valsaravakkam have tested positive.

The least number of active cases is in Manali with 152 testing positive. In Kodambakkam, as many as 11,994 persons have recovered. Teynampet has the highest number of deaths related to Covid-19 with 366 patients succumbing to the pandemic.
