Chennai: The number of active Covid-19 cases in the city has again hit the mark of 12,103 after a few days of lull. Five neighbourhoods in Chennai have more than 1,000 cases.

Some areas which did not have a surge in cases are now witnessing a rise. A total of 1,19,059 cases of Coronavirus have been recorded by the Health department since March, out of which 1,04,455 have recovered.

The recovery rate is 88 per cent and the active cases is at 10 per cent. The death rate is 2.10 per cent with 2, 501 persons succumbing to the viral infection.  As part of rapid testing, on 18 August, as many as 11,425 persons were tested for Coronavirus.

The Greater Chennai Corporation today gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have Covid-19.

According to the data, Ambattur has the highest number of active cases, that is, 1,446 persons have tested positive. Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,373 persons contracting the virus, Kodambakkam has close to 1,410 positive cases and there are 1,108 persons with the virus at Valsaravakkam.

Nearly, 1,247 persons have tested positive in Adyar and the least number of active cases are in Manali with 152 admitted to hospitals.

The pandemic has affected more men than women, as per data, 60.51 per cent of the patients have been male and 39.49 per cent are female.

Around 19.32 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 30-39 years of age.

The death is highest at Teynampet, with 366 persons succumbing to the virus here and the recovery rate is highest at Kodambakkam, where as many as 12,118 have recovered.
