Chennai: Coronavirus cases in Chennai, which were brought down after a series of initiatives, are increasing again as the city has been posting more than 1000 cases for the past some days.
And, experts express fear that the number of infections might increase in the metropolis in the days to come due to two reasons- more people reaching the city from other parts of the State after the e-pass restrictions were eased and the reopening of TASMAC shops.
“Officials should take note of these issues and take appropriate steps,” says a health expert. “Though social distancing measures are in place at liquor outlets, things need to be constantly monitored,” opines Murali, an activist.
Tamilnadu reported 5,709 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Of the new cases, 1,182 cases were reported in Chennai.
The district of Thiruvallur reported 489 cases, Chengalpet and Coimbatore reported over 300 cases each, while Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Salem, Theni reported over 200 cases in the last 24 hours.
