Covid-19: TN reports 5,795 new cases, 1,186 from Chennai alone

Chennai: Tamilnadu today reported 5,796 Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of coronavirus infections in the State so far to 3,55,449.

According to the daily bulletin released by the State Health department this evening, 1,186 cases were registered in Chennai in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of infections in the metropolis has reached 1,20,267.

As far as Chennai’s neighbouring district are concerned, Chengalpattu today reported 315 new infections, Kancheepuram 257 new cases and Thiruvallur 393 infections.

The bulletin said that 116 Covid-19 patients have lost their lives today, taking the total number of fatalities in the State due to the pandemic to 6,123.

On the positive side, as many as 6,384 coronavirus patients have been discharged from various hospitals in the State after recovery today, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,96,171. The government said the number of active cases now is 53,155.
