
Chennai: BJP State president L Murugan today said that BJPs stand in the Vinayagar Chathurthi celebrations is same as that of Hindu Munnani.
Speaking to mediapersons at the party’s State headquarters Kamalalayam, he said, “I do not understand why the State government is refusing permission to celebrate Vinayagar Chathurthi. Several other states inlcuding Maharashtra where the coronavirus count is high have given permission.”
He added: “We are not asking permission to carry out procession. We are just requesting to place Vinayagar statutes in public places.”
Days after banning installation of idols on streets and roads in view of Covid-19 pandemic, Tamilnadu government today asked people to celebrate Vinayagar Chaturthi from their residences.
A circular on this regard was issued this morning. It requested the people to cooperate with the government in the fight against coronavirus.
