Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has appointed Prof S Gowri, as Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras for a period of three years with effect from the date of his assumption of office.
Gowri, a Post-Doctoral Fellow of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore has a rich teaching experience of 37 years and is presently serving as Director, The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), An Inter University Centre of UGC, New Delhi located at Anna University and Honorary Professor in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, Anna University.
He was visiting Professor at University of Applied Sciences, Wengarten, Germany and visiting Research Fellow at Gintic Institute of Manufacturing Technology, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Besides, he has visited 12 foreign countries for academic interactions. He has a vast research experience having published 94 research papers, presented 30 research papers in International Conferences and authored 5 books. In addition, he has executed 18 research projects worth Rs.25.76 crores and holds three patents to his credit.
He has guided 13 Ph.D. Scholars and two M.S. scholars in Manufacturing Engineering.
He is familiar with the University Administration having functioned as the Registrar of Anna University of Technology, Chennai, Director EMMRC, Chairman of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Founder Head of Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Head of Department of Media Science. He was also Honorary Secretary of Anna GEM School of the University.
