Chennai: With the Union government writing to States to ensure that movement of people and goods and services is not affected due to ‘local lockdowns’, the Tamilnadu government is expected to remove e-pass system.
According to sources, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will take ‘appropriate decision’ after holding discussions with Ministers and top officials today.
The Home Ministry feels there is a need to have a uniform set of guidelines which can be implemented across all States and Union Territories.
In a letter to States, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said, “No separate permission/approval/e-permit will be required for such movements. It has been reported that the restrictions on movement are being imposed by various
district/states. Such restrictions are creating problems in inter-state movement of goods and services and are impacting the supply chain, resulting in disruption of economic activities.”
The circular was issued to the Chief Secretaries of all the States, informing them that there shall be no restrictions on inter-State and intra-State travel of people and goods.
