Chennai: Five months into the lockdown, despite a few relaxations, the State police continue to be on their toes enforcing the lockdown.
The Tamilnadu police arrested nearly 9,90,574 persons for violating norms of lockdown.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.
Close to 8,95,680 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGPās office said today.
As many as 6,92,957 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 21,44,93,953 has been collected from violators as fines, the release added.
