Cuddalore: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said cargo operations would soon commence from the Cuddalore port.
Talking to reporters after a review meeting on coronavirus preventive measures and launching various welfare schemes here, he works were on to upgrade the port into deep sea port at a cost of Rs 135 crore.
He said commercial services in the port would soon commence for cargo operations.Ā The proposal for constructing a barrage between Cuddalore and Nagapattinam districts across the Kollidam river at a cost of Rs 399 crore was under the active consideration of the government, he added.
Asserting that e-pass system was a must to track people’s movement from one district to other and trace them if they were exposed to coronavirus, Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday said the relaxations in e-pass scheme was announced keeping in mind the people’s welfare.
He, however, said people should apply for e-passes only if there was absolutely necessity for travel.
“The current Covid-19 situation is so critical that one cannot not foresee when the situation will become normal. It is the governmentās responsibility to save precious lives and we are doing it. So the people should also extend their cooperation and apply for e-passes only for urgent needs,” he said.
At a time when the Centre has directed the States to do away with restrictions on the inter-state movement of people and goods within the State, Palaniswami said e-pass system was necessary to track the movement of people.
