Chennai: The coronavirus cases in Chennai have reduced, as per latest numbers from the Greater Chennai Corporation. This morning, the active cases were at 12,537 and are at 9 per cent.
The city has recorded 1,37,732 cases, of which, 1,22,407 have recovered. As per the graph, the recovery rate is at 89 per cent.
As part of rapid testing, on 3 September, as many as 13,130 persons were tested for coronavirus. As many as 2,788 persons have succumbed to the viral infection.
The Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.
According to the data, Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,461 persons contracting the virus. Kodambakkam has brought down the cases to 1,383 and there are 1,099 persons with the infection in Adyar. Only these three areas have more than 1,000 cases.
Other places with comparatively high numbers are, Ambattur with 965 testing positive, Valsaravakkam has 914 active cases, Thir-Vi-Ka Nagar reportedly has 918 Covid cases and Royapuram has 994 testing positive.
In Kodambakkam, as many as 13,972 persons have recovered and the most number of lives were claimed in Teynampet with 388 persons succumbing to the virus.
The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 60.93 per cent of the patients are male and 39.07 per cent are female.
Around 18.56 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 30-39 years.
