Coimbatore: At least five people, including a child, were rescued after they were trapped under the debris of a one-storey building that collapsed on Chetti Street in Coimbatore, due to heavy rains and winds on Sunday night. Two people have died in the incident, latest information said.
“We are hearing desperate cry for help, so we are cautiously clearing the debris,” a police officer said earlier.
District Collector K Rajamani was monitoring the rescue operation. The building had collapsed amid heavy rains and winds on Sunday night. A major portion of it fell on the adjoining tiled house.
A child and four adults were said to be inside the building when the incident took place, officials said and added that some of them were rescued.
