Chennai: The city police are an elated lot after the Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal has permitted ‘birthday leaves’ for the department and the personnel will also get a greeting card.
Police personnel will be given a holiday on their respective birthdays and will receive a greeting card signed by the Commissioner.
On Sunday, for the first time, the department celebrated birthdays. The police personnel will be invited to the office of Deputy Commissioner or the Assistant Commissioner and will be given the card and then cut a cake together. Such events will also forge bonds between officials of various hierarchies.
The move is being welcomed by all police personnel. Raja Ram, a Sub-Inspector said, “The tradition is that the list of those celebrating birthdays is announced over mic at 8 am and the announcer conveys wishes from the city Commissioner. The day passes as just another day and policemen hardly take any leaves.”
Sub-Inspectors and Constables will be greeted by Inspectors and Assistant Commissioners and those above this rank will be wished by Deputy Commissioner or Joint Commissioner.
