Mumbai: As BMC officials demolished a portion of her office, actress Kangana Ranaut, who is involved in a heated war of words with the Maharashtra government, has vowed to expose Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey.
She said no due process was followed by the BMC in its actions and that the demolitions at her bungalow had damaged her furniture. “Paid sources of Maha government are spreading fake info, BMC never sent any notice to me until yesterday, in fact I got all the documents cleared myself from BMC for renovations. @mybmc at least have the courage to stand by your audacity. Why lie now”, she said.
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday stayed the demolition process initiated by the BMC for illegal construction at actor Kangana Ranaut’s bungalow here and sought to know why did the city civic body enter the property when the owner was not present.
Justice S J Kathawalla was hearing a petition filed by Ranaut challenging the notice issued by the BMC for illegal construction at her bungalow. The petition also sought a stay on the demolition process.
“Though the manner in which BMC proceeded to commence the demolition prima facie…smacks of mala fide…it was giving an opportunity to corporation to explain its conduct on affidavit by Thursday,” the court said.
“All of a sudden the corporation appears to have overnight woken up from its slumber, issued notice to the petitioner, that too when she is out of state, directing her to respond within 24 hours, and not granting her any further time, despite written request, and proceeding to demolish the premises upon completion of 24 hours,” it added.
The High Court also asked the BMC to file a reply to her petition in the matter. Ranaut, through her lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui, had moved the High Court against the demolition of what the BMC termed as ‘illegal alterations’ at her office.
