Chennai: With Tamilnadu reporting as many as 5,528 new Covid-19 cases, 6,185 discharges, and 64 deaths on Thursday, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and officials said the infection rate is coming down in the State.
“We are now slowly reducing the infection rate in the State. The positivity rate is below 10 per cent in most parts of Tamilnadu barring districts like Cuddalore,” vijayabaskar said.
He added that as per the ICMR guidelines, the TPR should ideally be below 10 per cent and by and large Tamilnadu conformed to the specification.
However, in Krishnagiri and Cuddalore districts, the TPR was little over the threshold and steps were being taken to bring it down soon, he said.
“But to maintain a low infection rate, people must follow pandemic rules – masks, social distancing and hand hygiene,” he said and added that 400 more Covid-19 beds to the 800-bed facility in Stanley Medical College Hospital.
“All the new beds are oxygen beds. It will help people in Chennai region,” he stated. Health department officials said the spread is coming down due to the comprehensive strategy adopted by them.
