Chennai: Monsoon brings humidity and dampness that can lead to certain skin- related issues in babies, such as rashes, itchy scalp, etc.
To tackle itchy scalp and cradle cap which is common during the monsoon, it is advisable to take the herbal route by using agentle baby shampooinfused with herbs like hibiscus and chickpea. Hibiscus helps moisturise and condition hair and chickpea helps nourish hair, says Ayurveda expert Dr Prathibha Babshet.
She advises parents to follow a monsoon skin care routine for their baby, which will help tackle skin concerns, right from diaper rashes to cradle cap and itchy scalp.
Addressing the concern of diaper rashes, Dr Pratibha, who works with the research and development department of The Himalaya Drug Company, says that they are caused due to the wetness from the nappy. The best way to prevent a nappy rash is by using a diaper rash cream infused with Yashada Bhasma and almond oil.
“Yashada Bhasma has antimicrobial properties that help reduce skin irritation and rashes, and almond oil helps moisturise skin. Also, remember to change the nappy frequently,” she adds.
It is equally important to choose appropriate monsoon clothing and dress baby in full and light clothing, preferably made of cotton fabrics.
