Chennai: Discussion on NEET took the centre stage on the second day of the Tamilnadu Assembly session at Kalaivanar Arangam today.
A calling attention motion on NEET was raised by Leader of Opposition in the House and DMK president M K Stalin during the zero hour.
Stalin demanded the State government to submit a white paper report about the steps taken by it against NEET.
In his response to the motion, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that NEET was brought by the Congress government in 2010. He also pointed out that the DMK was part of the alliance that ruled the country then. Palaniswami also blamed the DMK for the loss of lives of 13 students due to the fear of NEET.
The calling attention motion by the DMK condemned the Central government for conducting NEET.
“The government has not understood the emotions of the students. There were also discrepancies reported in the question paper. Some students were even asked to remove the thaali before entering the exam hall. Three students have lost their lives this month alone due to NEET,” Stalin said.
Meanwhile, during the discussion, Radhapuram MLA Inbadhurai said that even when a review petition was filed against NEET in Supreme Court, it was senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram’s wife Nalini Chidambaram who argued against the cancellation of the exam.
Congress MLAs objected to the statement and started shouting in the House. However the MLAs were removed from the Assembly by Speaker P Dhanapal.
