Chennai: From State Assembly to tea shops to social media platforms, arguments are happening over who is responsible for NEET, whether the ruling AIADMK or the main opposition DMK.
A day after the DMK accused the AIADMK and its ally at the Centre, BJP, for students dying by suicide over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, the AIADMK chose to hit back at the opposition with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami accusing the former for the suicide of 13 medical aspirants.
Palaniswami questioned the DMK and the Congress and accused the two parties of bringing in NEET in the State and now playing double standards.
EPS, who was on fire mode (a video of his speech in Assembly has gone viral on social media), said neither he nor his AIADMK was responsible for the studentsā suicides.
“You were in alliance with the Congress when the NEET was introduced. Who argued in favour of NEET? Someone who is with those (MLAs) who walked out. How did the problem actually come in and who was the reason for this? Who was responsible for bringing in NEET again? Not us, but the party with which you have an alliance,” Palaniswami.
Radhapuram MLA IS Inbadurai pointed out that senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s wife Nalini Chidambaram, who is a senior advocate, had appeared in the Supreme Court in favour of NEET in 2017 after the Centre refused to endorse Tamilnadu government’s draft ordinance seeking a one-year exemption from NEET.
