Chennai: Chennai International Airport officials have announced that the e-pass system, which was available at the airport for passengers, has been withdrawn.
The airport tweeted, “Important Update: The TN e-Pass facility at #Chennaiairport domestic arrival stands withdrawn from 1800 hrs, today. We request all interstate passengers arriving at #Chennai to apply for TN e-Pass from the link https://tnepass.tnega.org/#/user/pass prior commencing the journey. @AAI_Official.”
Earlier, passengers travelling to Chennai could either obtain an e-pass on the Tamilnadu E-pass Portal or at a counter at the airport. From Friday, passengers travelling to Chennai will have to obtain the e-pass from the State portal.
Meanwhile, Tamilnadu on Friday registered 5,488 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of persons tested positive for coronavirus infection in the State so far to 5,30,908.
According to the daily bulletin released by the State Health department, the capital city of Chennai registered 989 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has reached 1,53,616.
As far as Chennai’s neighbouring districts are concerned, Chengalpattu registered 265 new cases, Kancheepuram saw 151 infections in the last 24 hours, and Thiruvallur posted 258 positive cases.
The districts of Cuddalore and Coimbatore witnessed 254 and 543 new cases, respectively. As many as 67 Covid-19 patients died, taking the total number of fatalities in the State due to the pandemic to 8,685.
On the positive side, the bulletin said 5,525 patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamilnadu. With this, the total number of recoveries in the State has touched 4,75,717.
