Chennai: A further 5,516 Covid-19 cases were reported in Tamilnadu in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 5,41,993 in the State.
According to the Health department, 86,073 samples were tested to a total of 64,74,656 till date. After 5,206 Covid-19 patients were discharged (total 4,86,479), the number of active cases stood at 46,703.
Meanwhile, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar on Sunday said 80 per cent of Covid-19 patients were treated at government hospitals across the State, and 75 to 80 per cent of Covid-19 tests were carried out at government laboratories.
Speaking to reporters in Pudukottai, Vijayabaskar said government hospitals had been doing commendable work during the pandemic.
