Udumalai K Radhakrishnan

Chennai: In a shocking incident in broad day light, a five-member kidnapped the Personal Assistant (PA) of Tamilnadu Animal Husbandry Minister Udumalai K Radhakrishnan at knife point from the MLA’s office in Udumalpet in Tiruppur district Wednesday afternoon. The gang, however, released him within an hour.

They also threatened him and slapped him twice on his face before dropping him near Mudakkupatti area near Dhali, about 10 km from the MLA’s office, reports received at the police headquarters here said. There was no injury to Karnan, the reports said.

The Minister’s PA Karnan and a woman staff were at the MLA office, when the gang barged in and abducted him at knife point at around 1145 hrs, without unharming her.

Before the shell-shocked woman staff could raise an alarm, the gang took Karnan in the car in which they came and fled the scene.

The Minister, who is also the chairman of the Tamilnadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation, was not present at his office when the shocking incident took place.

Footages from the CCTV cameras installed in the office showed four men alighting from a white car which was parked outside the office.

While the driver remained at the wheel, three men went inside the office and a youth stood outside. A minute later, the trio came out holding Karnan by his collar and forcibly dumped him inside the waiting car and fled the scene, before releasing him at Thali in the district about an hour later.

Tiruppur District (Rural) Superintendent of Police Disha Mittal and senior officers visited the MLA’s office and held preliminary inquiries.

During questioning, Karnan said the gang threatened him and also slapped him twice, before shoving him off the car. Police suspect that some financial dealings was said to be the reason behind the incident and Karnan was being questioned
further to ascertain the motive. Special police teams were formed to trace the kidnappers.
