Covid numbers grow in Chennai, cross 11,000

Chennai: After weeks, the city is back to showing over 11,000 active cases of Coronavirus. The sudden spurt of cases is worrying as Chennai has unlocked the economy and getting back to normalcy.

Since March, the city has recorded 1,64,744 cases of Covid-19, of which 1,50,522 have recovered. Chennai is showing 91 per cent recovery rate and currently has seven per cent active cases.

Nearly, 11,043 persons have the viral infection. A total of 3,179 persons have lost their lives since March.

As per data, 414 persons have died in Teynampet and 358 lives were lost in Anna Nagar.Ā On 27 September, 12,300 tests were carried out by the City Corporation’s health department.

The Greater Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.

According to the data, in Kodambakkam there are 1,231 active cases. Nearly 1,059 patients in Teynampet and 1,245 persons in Anna Nagar have Coronavirus.

Other places with high Covid-19 numbers are, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar with 903 patients, Adyar with 971 cases, 856 persons in Valsaravakkam has Covid and 880 cases are recorded in Royapuram.

The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 60.69 per cent of the patients are male and 39.31 per cent are female.

Around 19.26 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 50-59 years of age. Kodambakkam shows a recovery rate of 91 percent. As many as 16,922 have become Covid-free here.
