Chennai: Chennai is once again witnessing steady rise in the number of Covid-19 cases. From reporting less than 1,000 cases on daily basis, the city is now posting around 1200-1300 cases for the past some days.

While this has caused worry among residents, especially with the restrictions being relaxed and people moving freely from one place to another, officials say there is no need for panic as they are on an aggressive testing mode.

Tamilnadu on Monday reported 5,395 new Covid-19 cases as the tally rose to 6,25,391 while the death toll touched 9,846 with 62 more fatalities.

Chennai reported 1,367 fresh cases. The active cases in Chennai stood at 12,560, which is nearly 27 per cent of a total of 45,881 active cases across the State.

Those dead include three men aged 90, 32 and 43 and 59 had co-morbidities and three no chronic illnesses. The toll of 9,846 included 3,293 from Chennai, 574 from Chengalpet and Tiruvallur 561.

The capital accounted for 1,367 infections on Monday and 1,74,143 cases out of the 6.25 lakh plus case tally.
