Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit is expected to give his approval to a Bill passed by Tamilnadu Assembly, providing 7.5 per cent reservation to government school students who clear NEET to get into medical admissions.
This comes after a team of five Ministers met Purohit at the Raj Bhavan Tuesday and requested him to clear the Bill.
The delegation, comprising Ministers C Ve Shanmugam, D Jayakumar, K P Anbalagan, K A Sengottaiyan and Dr C Vijayabaskar met Purohit at the Raj Bhavan and sought his nod for Bill which was unanimously passed in the State Assembly on 15 September as the NEET results were announced and the counselling for medical admissions were set to begin.
Later, talking to reporters outside the Raj Bhavan after the meeting, Jayakumar said the Governor has assured that he would soon give his assent to the Bill.
“We informed the Governor that only if he gives his assent for the Bill, counselling for medical admissions can be conducted”, he said, adding, Purohit said he would soon give his nod to it.
