Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has replied to a letter written by DMK president and Leader of Opposition MK Stalin asking for at least 3-4 weeks time to decide upon 7.5 per cent reservation Bill in medical courses for government school students who clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.
This has not gone down well with political parties in the State. DMK has announced a protest against the Governor for his delay in taking a decision regarding the reservation bill on October 24 in Chennai.
VCK chief and Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan has written a letter to President Ramnath Kovind requesting him to recall Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Tamilnadu.
Stalin said the protest will be held to condemn the Governor’s delay in signing the Bill and the AIADMK Government’s reluctance to exert pressure.
Stalin’s announcement came after the Governor responded to his letter written on Wednesday seeking immediate consent for the Bill. “I would like to inform you that I am seized of the matter and getting it examined from all angles. I need at least 3 to 4 weeks time to arrive at a decision The same has also been informed to the delegation of Ministers who called on me recently,” Purohit said.
Thirumavalavan, in his letter to the President, pointed out that the Governor of Tamilnadu was violating this obligations, and this created hindrance to the State government.
He also said (NEET) results were already published and students were anxiously waiting to join medical courses. The State government has made all the arrangements for conducting the counselling for the admission process, he added.
