R Doraikkannu

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday visited a private hospital in the city, where Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu was admitted, and enquired about his health condition.

Amid reports that the health condition of the Minister has suffered a setback, the Chief Minister visited the hospital and enquired with the doctors about the progress of his health.

Palaniswami along with Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar also spoke to the family members of the Minister and enquired about his condition.

Sources said the Minister was being treated with ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation).

Doraikkannu was admitted to Kavery Hospital on 13 October after he developed breating problems while proceeding to Salem to pay homage to Mr Palaniswami’s mother who had passed away in a private hospital.

When his convoy reached Vikravandi, he complained of chest pain and breathing problems and was admitted to Villupuram Government Medical College Hospital (VGMCH) at Mundiyambakkam.

After initial treatment, he was shifted to Kavery hospital in Chennai where he was undergoing treatment since then.

Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by the hospital said the Minister, who was admitted with severe breathlesness, had tested positive for Covid-19.

October has multiple comorbidities and the latest CT scan shows 90 per cent lung involvement.

“He is currently on ECMO and ventilator, receiving maximal support”, the bulletin said, adding, he was being closely monitored by a panel of specialist doctors in the Intensive Care Unit.
