Chennai: People in many parts of the metropolis and its suburbs woke up to rains and chill weather today, as heavy rains lashed Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kanchipuram districts from last night and continued this morning too.
Officials from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the city and its surrounding areas would receive more showers.
Met office said yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu coast persists and now extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar districts of Tamilnadu for the next five days.
Thunderstorm with lightning was also likely to occur at isolated places over Tamilnadu.
