TN CM allots Doraikkannu’s portfolio to Anbalagan

Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has said the Agriculture portfolio, held by the R Doraikkannu who passed away on Saturday night, has been allotted to Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan.

A Raj Bhavan statement said, “On the advice of the hon’ble chief minister, hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu has allotted the portfolios Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agro Service Cooperatives, Horticulture, Sugarcane Cess, Sugarcane Development and Waste Land Development, held by Thiru (Mr) R Doraikannu, since deceased, to Thiru K P Anbalagan.”

It added that Anbalagan has been re-designated as Minister for Higher Education and Agriculture.

Doraikkannu died at a private hospital in Chennai late on 31 October after battling Covid-19-related complications. He was 72.

Doraikkannu was elected to the Tamilnadu Assembly from Papanasam in Thanjavur district in 2006, 2011 and 2016, with the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inducting him in the cabinet in 2016.
