Chennai: The Indian Railways has taken a 90 per cent hit in revenues from the passenger segment due to Covid-19.

Speaking to the media, Railway Board Chairman and CEO V.K. Yadav said that about 44 per cent or 327 of the 736 special passenger trains currently running have waiting lists.

“We are monitoring these 327 trains daily. Once we determine the nature of the wait list — for how many days and how long — we will run clone trains on those routes,” he said.

“The Railways has earned Rs 3,322 crore from the passenger segment, which is 90 percent less than last year, due to Covid-19,” Yadav added.

Talking about the resumption of full-scale services of passenger trains, he said the Railways is in regular touch with state governments and assessing the situation.

Yadav, however, admitted that it is difficult to give an exact date due to the uncertainty created by the Coronavirus outbreak.
