Dr Randeep Guleria

Chennai: Increasing worries over availability of Covid-19 vaccine for all in India, it has emerged that the country would require around 6.10 crore glass vials to pack Covid-19 vaccines for the first six months once a vaccine is available.

Adding more to this, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria has said that common people will have to wait till 2022 for a shot of the coronavirus vaccine.

The AIIMS Director, also a member of the national task force on the coronavirus management in the country, said it will take “more than a year for a coronavirus vaccine to be easily available in the Indian markets.

Speaking to CNN-News18, Guleria said for normal people, it will take more than a year. ‘In our country the population is large; we need time to see how the vaccine can be bought from the market like a flu vaccine and take it. That will actually be the ideal situation,’ he added.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccine being developed by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE prevented more than 90 per cent of infections in a study of tens of thousands of volunteers, the most encouraging scientific advance so far in the battle against the Coronavirus.
