Chennai: The scalp and hair of newborns are just as delicate as their skin. Highlighting this, experts advise new parents to adopt a specific haircare routine for babies, which will help in getting thick, soft, and healthy hair.

“Oiling is the first step to ensure healthy hair growth. Most babies are prone to dry scalp, dandruff, and scanty hair growth, which can be managed witha daily oil massage. It is always advisable to opt for products that contain natural ingredients and are known to be safe and gentle for baby’s hair,” says Dr Prathibha Babshet, Ayurveda expert.

Stressing on the importance of using a hair oil free from mineral oil, alcohol, parabens, synthetic colors, and phthalates, Dr Prathibha, who is with the R&D of The Himalaya Drug Company, suggests parents to choose a hair oil that is gentle and will help nourish baby’s hair.

Before using any product, she also recommends knowing the benefits of natural herbs and how each ingredient helps.
