Chennai: Thanks to the festival of lights, the state of Tamilnadu is back to travel mode. This is evident from the high volume of intercity bus ticket bookings registered on redBus, an online bus ticketing platform.
The extended travel restrictions on bus travel in Tamilnadu had initially deprived people of the opportunity for traveling to their homes. But since the complete lifting of travel restrictions, redBus said it is seeing the highest demand for travel in India from Tamilnadu as people looked forward to spending Deepavali with their loved ones.
The booking for Deepavali on redBus had already started 14 days in advance before the festival on 14 November.
About 250 private bus operators along with Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) catered to the year’s peak travel days by running around 2600+ daily services, through which they were expected to transport 6.5 lakh passengers, across a cumulative distance of 7 crore kilometres during the Deepavali week.
Data so far indicates that travel between Chennai and Madurai, is the most sought after bus route in Tamilnadu for Deepavali.
