Chennai: The Chennai police are exploring the role of ‘rowdies’ from Kanchipuram who allegedly helped a Mumbai-based gang in carrying out the murders in Sowcarpet.
It is said that a notorious rowdy in the neighbouring Kanchipuram district helped them in accommodation and sourcing the gun.
Jayamala, the main accused in the case, her brother and accomplice Kailash, along with friends Ravindranath and Vijay Uttam Kamal had stayed in Kattur, Kanchipuram before leaving for Sowcarpet, it has emerged in investigation.
Police believe they were helped by rowdies in getting the weapon and it is also suspected that a local gangster had accompanied the gang to Sowcarpet where the shooting happened.
The team investigating the case is gathering more evidence to chargesheet the suspects and sources claim Jayamala too have been arrested.
It may be noted that on 13 November, a special team of city police personnel arrested three accused in Solapur, Maharashtra.
Kailash, Ravindranath and Vijay were caught while they were escaping in a car. They confessed to the crime and surrendered the revolver used to fire four bullets.
On 11 November, Chand (74) his wife Pushpabai (68) and their son Sheetal Kumar (40) were allegedly shot by Jayamala with the help of the three men at Elephant Gate.
Police said a marital discord and subsequent fight over finance lead to the murders. Jayamala had allegedly accused Sheetal of not paying the divorce settlement.
