Chennai: Perambalur has become the first district in Tamilnadu to be completely free of coronavirus cases. Sources said that so far 2,228 persons have recovered from Covid-19 in the district. No new cases were reported in the district yesterday.
Active cases in the district were just 33, the lowest among other districts in the region.
As many as 21 people lost their lives to the virus in the district. According to the daily bulletin released by the State Health department last evening, the capital city of Chennai registered 497 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has reached 2,09,167.
As far as Chennaiās neighbouring districts are concerned, Chengalpattu today registered 118 new cases, Kancheepuram saw 79 infections in the last 24 hours, and Thiruvallur posted positive 83 cases.
The districts of Cuddalore and Coimbatore on Monday witnessed 28 and 174 new cases, respectively. As many as 17 Covid-19 patients died, taking the total number of fatalities in the State due to the pandemic to 11,495.
On the positive side, the bulletin said 2,384 patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamilnadu. With this, the total number of recoveries in the State has touched 7,32,656.
