Chennai: Chennai’s major water sources including Chembarambakkam lake and Poondi reservoir are brimming with water, thanks to the recent rains.
“This is enough for the next some months and there won’t be shortage of water,” said an official, who expressed happiness about the situation.
The catchment areas of Poondi, Cholavaram, Red Hills and Chembarambakkam reservoirs received good rain in the past few days and the water storage levels are increasing rapidly.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast that there will be a gradual decrease in rainfall over the State from today. Rainfall activity will largely shift to south Tamilnadu.
The northeast monsoon has been intense over the past few days and has brought very heavy to heavy rainfall in many places during the past few days.
