Chennai: Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s close aide VK Sasikala is expected to be released soon after her lawyer informed that a fine of more than Rs 10 crore imposed on her was deposited in a disproportionate assets in a Bengaluru court on Wednesday.
With this news triggering speculations in political circles, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said the release of Sasikala will have no impact on the AIADMK.
“The release of Sasikala from Bengaluru prison will not change the AIADMK’s decision to keep her and her relatives away from the party and government affairs,” he told reporters in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
“As far as we are concerned, there will be no change,” he said in response to a question on whether Sasikala’s release will cause any changes in the party.
Meanwhile, Sasikala’s counsel N Raja Senthoor Pandian said the fine was deposited at a court in Bengaluru through demand drafts.
The court is now expected to inform prison authorities about the payment of fine and “I expect her to be free soon, earlier than the scheduled release date of 27 January, 2021,” he said.
