Chennai: Considered as rural and backward districts, the likes of Ariyalur, Perambalur, Dindigul, Tenkasi and Ramanathapuram are showing the way to the rest of Tamilnadu in controlling Covid-19 spread.

On Thursday, the lowest number of infections were recorded in Perambalur, where two persons were found to be infected. Tenkasi saw five new cases; Dindigul six cases; and Ramanathapuram recorded seven additional cases. In Ariyalur district, eight fresh cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

While Chennai reported 471 cases, its neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 119, 98 and 138 cases respectively. Meanwhile, Coimbatore reported 149 cases. The State tested 67,115 samples and 66,365 people on the day.

A media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health said that among the deceased, only one patient had no comorbid conditions.

In the meantime, Molecular Laboratory at The Childs Trust Medical Research Foundation in Chennai has been approved for Covid-19 testing recently.
